Kelso Library Readers Group October meeting
Our meeting on Tuesday of this week was on favourite poems. Six people out of eleven had selected poems to read...the other five had either forgotten or had not been aware of the meeting's topic.
Anyway there were some good poems, some concerned with war. We discussed why the poems read were chosen and it was interesting to note that some said it depended on the time of year...such as Halloween, Christmas, the spring etc. We had quite a variety of authors from Major John McCrae's "In Flanders Field" to Joyce Grenfell..."Time". The ladies who had not selected a poem promised to have one for our next meeting!
We also discussed a few books we had been reading ..."The Bastard of Istanbul"...."Notes from an Exhibition"..."The Complete Short Stories" by Agnes Owens, which I must say (as it was my choice) was great in her early story telling but became quite gothic in content later. We will continue reading any books which come to hand until we can get another selection (provided by Ruth).
We also discussed where we would go for our Christmas lunch out but decided to leave it until our next meeting...the last Tuesday in November.
Cheers....IHE
